Catherine Y. Wang

About Me

Hello! My name is Catherine Wang, and I am a PhD candidate at Carnegie Mellon University in the Department of Statistics and Data Science and expect to earn my degree in the summer of 2026. I received my undergraduate degree in Statistics, BA and Computer Science, BA at the University of California, Berkeley. I am fortunate to be advised by Kathryn Roeder and Larry Wasserman!

I am interested in the areas of causal inference, empirical Bayes/shrinkage, semi-parametric theory and efficiency, survival analysis, network analysis, mixed effects modeling, and statistical machine learning. In particular, I am interested in applying these techniques and ideas in areas such as genetics (e.g. single-cell CRISPR screens), psychiatry (e.g. structural magnetic resonance imaging [SMRI], diffusion-weighted imaging [DWI], functional MRI [fMRI]), nephrology, and electronic health records.

In my free time, I like to go biking, play tennis, and play piano!
